Maintenance Window

I just want to announce that usual server maintenance (mainly updates) will be done on Mondays from 2 – 6pm. Please expect an occasional reboot during this time period.

If critical software vulnerabilities (especially remote vulnerabilities) are discovered in the software we use, I will patch them as soon as the patches are released (and not wait until the next Monday).

Please let me know if you want to run a simulation on/over a Monday. I can generally avoid a reboot if I have to, but need to know which servers you use.

 

svn.nes.aau.at migrated

I just finished the migration of the SVN server. The new server should work just like the old did.

Please also remember, that the old wwwextra is now completely offline. If you used it for anything other than SVN it will no longer work!

 

Auslastung Matlab-Server Juni bis Oktober 2011

Der Matlab-Server für Mobile Systeme mobile-sim1.nes.uni-klu.ac.at hält vier Concurrent Lizenzen für Matlab.

Im Zeitraum vom Juni bis Oktober 2011 wurde der Server häufig genutzt, allerdings meist nur mit einer Lizenz. Nur in 2% der Zeit waren zwei Matlab-Lizenzen gleichzeitig ausgecheckt, drei oder vier waren es nie.

Insgesamt wurde der Server im Schnitt jedes Monat für 440h genutzt.

Parallel Computing with MOSIX

MOSIX is a cluster and multi-cluster operating system targeted for High Performance Computing (HPC) on x86 Linux platforms. It incorporates automatic resource discovery and dynamic workload distribution. MOSIX features provide users and applications with the illusion of running on a single computer with multiple processors, without changing the interface and the run-time environment of their login nodes.

So far it sounds very nice…

However, the experience report on Java suggests that it will be hard to get Java simulations parallized (with automatic job migration). It’s a pity…

Still, MOSIX, sounds like an interesting system. Since it runs also on virtual machines, so a MOSIX cluster could run in parallel to local servers.

Ab sofort werden Bestellungen für LL Projekte durch die Uni-Techniker durchgeführt.

Vorgehensweise wie folgt:

  • 3 Angebote einholen (Geizhals)
  • Rechnungs- u. Lieferadresse LL GmbH
  • Geräte bei uns abholen (wg. Inventarisierung)
  • wenn nicht günstigstes
    Angebot ausgewählt dann unbedingt Begründung mitliefern

Sollte Vorauskasse als Zahlungsbedingung angegeben sein, bitte Christina Kercek die Daten für die Überweisung mitteilen.
